Bia Ferreira, a Brazilian singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and artivist, is considered one of the most powerful voices in contemporary Brazilian music today. With her distinctive approach, she combines Afro-diasporic rhythms such as soul, R&B, reggae, and rap with Brazilian styles such as samba and repente—a sound that is as political as it is poetic. Her direct, uncompromising lyrics address central issues of our time: necropolitics, racism, LGBTQIAP+ rights, black feminism, gender issues, affection, and the reality of marginalized bodies.
This artistic stance is rooted in an early musical career: Bia began playing the piano in church at the age of three, later studied at the Conservatório Brasileiro de Música, and developed into a versatile multi-instrumentalist. At the age of twelve, she wrote her first composition—a formative moment in her exploration of identity, religion, and gender. Her work is guided by the concept of escrevivência, a style of writing that closely interweaves autobiographical experience and social criticism.
She celebrated her breakthrough in 2018 with Cota Não É Esmola, a viral hit whose lyrics even became required reading at the University of Brasília. Following her acclaimed WOMEX showcase in 2022, Bia played over 100 concerts in 16 countries across America, Europe, and Africa, establishing herself as one of the most internationally active independent Brazilian artists of her generation. Her live performances are energetic, emotional, and empowering—leaving a lasting impression wherever she goes.
Her discography includes Igreja Lesbiteriana, Um Chamado (2019), and Faminta (2023), a turning point that focuses on the transformative power of affection. With Améfrica (2026), she expands her artistic language once again. In addition to her music, she participates in radio broadcasts, writes for newspapers, and uses art as a tool to transform social issues into solutions.
