Sonic Interventions emerged in 2020 from weekly Open-Air sessions. Since then, the transdisciplinary, diaspora-futuristic band has established itself as one of Berlin's most acclaimed underground Jazz collectives. Known for inclusive live spectacles, in which moments of meditation and trance rise into heavy grooves, the band merges poetry and dance inspired by the cosmos and the ancestors.
Sonic Interventions stands for immersive and transforming ceremonies of sound and dance, aiming at collective healing and elevation in evolving, fluid constellations. As the artistic family includes Berlin based artists from around the world, diasporic cultures and rhythms meet around improvisation and transcends languages, genres, space and time, opening a liminal space of Afro- and Diaspora-Futurism that bridges ancient and future worlds with the present of the lived experience. The band is part of a new movement in Berlin jazz that combines modern and driving rhythms with global melodies and improvisational jazz.
Sonic Interventions has appeared at ÜBERJAZZ Hamburg, Fusion Festival, XJAZZ! Berlin and Rudolstadt Festival, among others, as well as having acclaimed rising US jazz saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins at Jazz Montez 2023. Their Debut Album Do You Remember? came out via Agogo Records in November 2024. The album weaves together spiritual jazz, poetry, groove and their distinct improvisational approach into a genre bending journey that encapsulates the band’s ethos of creativity, community, and resilience in the face of a world turned upside down.
