Nana Rashid lives and breathes music shaped by a rich cultural heritage and a deep emotional sensitivity. As a Danish–Zanzibari–Omani vocalist and composer, she creates a distinctive sound that bridges Nordic jazz, soul, and blues. Whether performing original material or reinterpreting standards, she captivates audiences with a rare sincerity and strong narrative presence.
Her debut album Music for Betty (April Records, 2023) established her as one of the most compelling new voices in Scandinavian jazz. Widely praised for its “smouldering intensity” and nuanced expression, the record combines Nordic melancholy with blues and neo-soul influences, showcasing her strength as both storyteller and interpreter. The album earned her the award for Best New Jazz Artist of the Year at the Danish Music Awards 2023.
Since then, Rashid has toured extensively across Scandinavia, Europe, and Asia, performing sold-out concerts at leading venues and festivals. Highlights include Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, and Oslo Jazz Festival, as well as international appearances at Jazz in Marciac and the Taichung Jazz Festival. Her live performances are defined by a compelling balance of vulnerability and strength, inviting audiences into a space of reflection and emotional honesty.
In 2026, she will record her next album in Los Angeles with Grammy-winning producer Larry Klein, marking a significant step in her international trajectory. The collaboration is set to expand her sonic range while staying true to the emotional core of her work.
Drawing from her mixed heritage, she reflects on roots and distance, difficult love, and the expectations placed on women—creating music that does not seek easy answers, but instead opens a space where opposing emotions can coexist.
