Ziggy Zeitgeist is at home where improvisation meets rousing dance music. Whether with his current project Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange (ZFE*X) or as drummer for the renowned nu-soul and future jazz collective 30/70, Ziggy's music has long made international waves and is celebrated by greats such as Gilles Peterson, Byron the Aquarius and Alexander Nut, among others.
Growing up in Australia without a pronounced club culture, Ziggy found his musical socialisation in the so-called ‘Bush Doof’ – raves in the Australian outback where sound systems were brought to the middle of nowhere and electronic music boomed through the landscape from sunrise until late into the night. For Ziggy, this was the playground of the Australian electronic scene: ‘This is our club culture – a journey into consciousness, into ourselves, into each other and into nature.’ Today, with ZFE*X, he brings this spirit to Berlin, a city where jazz, improvisation and club culture merge in a unique way.
The Ziggy Zeitgeist Trio's programme ZFE*X is dance music in its most human form – a live experience that combines the energy of a DJ set with the spontaneity of a band. Deeply rooted in club culture and inspired by psychedelic experiences, ZFE*X is a sonic odyssey: here, synthesizers merge with flutes, jazz drums meet the raw energy of broken beat, and nature is quoted musically – in calls and responses, just like in a lively dialogue with the world around us.
