Gretchen Parlato is the new star of female vocal jazz - at least thats what many people say who know their jazz: gracefully she transcends borders with her voice. In 2004 she won the highly renowned Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition with just 28 years of age. The breakthrough came with her album In a Dream (2009, Obliqsound/Soulfood) which recieved magnificient reviews.
Herbie Hancock is a fan and calling her the legitimate successor of Frank Sinatra! Wayne Shorter is even going a step further and claims "there is no one out there like Gretchen!". She already played excellent live shows in the european festival scene with concerts at Molde, Copenhagen Festival, Jazzopen Stuttgart, Salzburger Jazzherbst, WDR 3 Jazz Cologne, North Sea, Stockholm and many more.. After her show at London Jazz Festival BBC wrote: "Star over London" !
