In some cultures the number eight stands for infinity or a new beginning. For Torsten Goods, also known as the “German George Benson“ because, according to the Süddeutsche newspaper “he's just as gifted a singer as he is on the guitar“, eight years of creative soul searching have culminated in a wonderfully personal new album. The radio station Deutschlandfunk has called his music “earthy, groovy and intricate all at the same time“ and the new album “Soul Searching“ is a new beginning, his seventh album under his own name. It's not only a source of feelgood music influenced by Jazz, Soul, Blues and the easy-going Westcoast/AOR sounds of the late 70s in California, with marvellous guests such as Randy Brecker, Kim Sanders, Nils Landgren or Bireli Lagrene.

“Soul Searching“ also tells the story of Torsten's optical transformation, caused by the autoimmune disorder “Alopecia“, which happens when the immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair loss. Even if the 42 year-old singer/guitarist has been otherwise healthy, the disorder has been a source of mental and emotional stress. Finding a new identity and getting used to a new, hairless appearance is the central theme of “Soul Searching“, in songs such as “Naked Funk“ or the ballad “I Had To Learn Not To Care“, which Goods wrote with Sarah Connor. As her musical director, the co-winner of the GEMA music-author prize and twice nominated for an Echo Jazz prize, Goods can be seen performing live with Sarah Connor.

His own “Soul Searching Tour 2023“ will see Torsten Goods appearing with Jan Miserre on keyboards and piano, Felix Lehrmann on drums and Thomas Stieger on bass, or in other words: the band behind the new album, for fourteen years now perfectly attuned to one another and in the autumn touring through Germany. They'll also be in Switzerland, the UK and naturally Ireland, his mother's home country. The concerts will not only feature the new album, but also the fan favourites from Torsten's repertoire. So each concert of the tour will be a unique experience full of deeply felt, acoustic mood lifters, performed with virtuosity. The recipe: “smooth vocals, fast guitars and feelgood grooves“

"Goods bringt seine Kellergitarre leichthändig und virtuos zum Singen. Seine Finger rasen bei Soloimprovisationen im aberwitzigen Tempo übers Griffbrett."
Mittelbayerische, 04.17.2016
„[..] And that's no coincidence since Toresten's guitar sound has been regularly compared to George Benson's. Like George, Torsten also sings but though he "does scat" his vocals are very different... a touch of james Taylor about them, I'd say."
Soul And Jazz And Funk
"Das Konzert von Torsten Goods [...] entwickelt sich zu einem virtuosen musikalischen Feuerwerk. Atemberaubende Gitarren-Soli, komplexe Harmonien, die perfekt groovende Band und Torsten Goods' variantenreicher Gesang sind die Elemente für große Unterhaltung."
